Excel Home Rent or Buy Analysis Template



Use this template to compare renting versus buying your own home. This template helps you to explore the economic factors of renting an apartment versus buying a home. The economic reality is that home ownership is often the better financial alternative because of the tax benefits and the appreciation of property value. There are several initial assumptions that you must enter that are necessary to calculate the various costs and tax benefits. You need to enter an assumption for each variable for this analysis to be complete. The after tax rate of Return on investments can be estimated by multiplying your pre-tax expected rate of return by this formula:
(1-Your Marginal Tax Rate). Your marginal tax is your combined federal and state income tax rates.
